Kate Welle, BA

Clinical Intern Therapist

Leaves Shadow

Kate is currently completing her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health at the University of Northern Colorado. With a background in mental health, experiential education, and the culinary world, Kate's approach to therapy is rooted in embodied learning and relationship.

Kate’s personal recovery from eating disorders and body image issues led her to culinary school, where she was taught to experience food from a chef’s perspective. What was once a profound fear eventually transmuted into curiosity about food science and accessibility, the inherently therapeutic nature of the cooking process, and the fundamental connectivity of sharing a meal with others.

Kate believes that while no one exists in a vacuum, societal pressure, beauty standards, and systemic oppression can certainly leave us feeling that way. Capitalism gets its hooks in us when we’re young, forcing us to never feel “enough,” to rely on external dogma and diets, and to sever the connection with our inner wisdom. Committing to therapy is re-committing to connection, which is in itself an act of resistance. Kate feels honored to walk alongside you on your journey home, providing warmth, relatability, and humor.

My Therapeutic Lens

  • I believe that the relationship we create in therapy is rehearsal for the “real” world, and thus, establishing a space where one feels truly seen, valued, and invited to communicate openly is crucial.

  • I believe that you are the expert on your life, and when therapy is effective, you will embody this belief as well.

  • The search for meaning looks different for everybody. I use an existential approach, drawing on techniques from other therapeutic frameworks to meet individuals exactly where they are.

  • I believe that mind-body connection and a regulated nervous system are fundamental to taking the uncomfortable (and sometimes scary) steps in our healing process.
