Raquel is currently completing her Master’s of Social Work at Colorado State University. She has a BS in Psychology with minors in Social Work and Art. Raquel has a background in working with the refugee and immigrant population and is passionate about creating affirming communities where everyone feels welcome. Raquel has a special interest in how the creative process can bring hope and healing into people’s lives, as well as viewing experiences through a systemic lens that includes all aspects of a person’s life.

Raquel is a cisgender, Mexican-American woman. With a personal background in disordered eating and struggles related to body, Raquel hopes to be a support to others in the journey of recovery and living a life that embraces a full range of emotions and experiences. She intends to support her clients with the tools to live life with a sense of equanimity and wholeness. Outside of therapy, Raquel loves being in nature, moving her body, playing around on her guitar, cooking, and being with loved ones.

My Therapeutic Lens

  • As a creative person myself, I believe in the power of the process of creating, whether it’s visual art, writing, music, cooking, or other forms of art and creativity. I consistently aim to bring that into the therapy setting.

  • I believe relationships are central to the human experience and that it is possible to learn skills that foster healthy, loving relationships with others and oneself.

  • I celebrate and welcome all forms of spirituality that resonate with people and create a sense of connectedness with other living beings and the Earth. I  approach life and learning with an openness to nuances.

  • My therapeutic approach includes deep listening, harnessing the power of the present moment through mindfulness, normalizing human experiences, learning about how oppressive systems, life challenges, and trauma can shape people’s experiences, and fostering a sense of hope.

  • I believe that liberation comes through self-love, advocacy, living true to your values, and genuine, compassionate connection with others and self.
